Turkeys!
Prince Albert was a spur of the moment purchase and rode home to the
homestead in my lap!
Despite having chickens and guineas to keep him company Prince Albert, whose a
Royal Palm Turkey, seemed very lonesome so we began the search for him some
turkey buddies.
When we  brought home 4 young
Narragansett poults Albert became
one very happy, and very
protective tom turkey!!
Well turkey raising ended up quite a failure for us. We discovered why
Prince Albert was at auction! He liked to attack any woman that got anywhere
near ground level! I proclaimed *off with his head!* after his second attack on
me but Den didn't want to butcher him so he found a home with a friend of a
friend to be a 4-H project. 2 of the 4 Nargansett poults were sold to a friend
because it didn't take us long to discover that not only do turkeys eat a
lot..but they poop a lot! And everywhere! We thought we'd be happy with the
2 remaining turkeys.. but then the little one got a sinus infection and died
despite 3 weeks of treatment with antibiotics. The large one disappeared 2
weeks later. He was quite healthy so he either took off with the wild turkeys
or got eaten.. i suspect the lather..though no feathers were ever found. I don't
think we'll be getting any more turkeys, at least not in the near future!
