Dakota's Cheyenne
May 14, 1995 to July 6th,2004
Cheyenne was one of those horses that everyone fell in love with. Even people who
were not really horse people loved her. She had huge, soft, kind eyes that were always
full of love and just begged her humans to take a minute to scratch her neck or rub her
nose.
Cheyenne was shot on the 4th of July. We may never know if it was intentional or
some idiot shooting a gun in the air. But either way they took her life and deprived us
not only of all the love and joy that she brought to our lives, but of all the beautiful
foals she would have had.
Cheyenne loved foals as much as she did her humans. When Koko and Rocky were
born she spent hours hanging over the gate just watching them. Cheyenne was bred to
Joe when she was shot.
You will live on forever in our hearts and in our memories sweet Cheyenne.
If tears could build a stairway
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk a path to heaven
and bring you back again.

Someday sweet girl we'll ride
through the clouds and
under the rainbows and
always bareback since you
hated saddles so much.
Until then may the wind
blow through your mane,
the sun shine on your back,
and my fathers hand scratch
that spot under your mane
that always seemed to itch.
